Comm Central is a program that allows a user to send and receive faxes as well as have the capability of receiving voice mail on their personal computer.

Comm Central is found on certain models of Packard Bell and Ready personal computers.

Help, and hide is on the left hand side and the Packard Bell Logo is replaced

TECHNICAL SUPPORT

 

When attempting to print with Hewlett Packard printer, receive port not ready.

Hewlett Packard printers may have issues with the method of installation of Comm Central. Edit the system.ini by clicking on Start / Run / and typing system.ini, between [boot] and [keyboard] look for comm.drv=pbcomm.drv and ensure the line says comm.drv=comm.drv. In addition, ensure there are no other lines within these sections that have comm.drv.

Cannot receive faxes

Get into Settings by click the Settings button and ensure that the amount of rings you wish to receive faxes is properly set. Then click with your RIGHT mouse button on the fax icon on the taskbar at the bottom right hand corner by the time, go into modem properties and set the rings to answer after to the same amount that you set in settings, and close out of the box.

Unable to detect modem when computer boots.

If when booting up the computer on a Packard Bell system you get the error message about the modem not being detected or responding. However your modem seems to be working, go to Start / Settings / Control panel / double-click on system / click on the tab Device Manager / click the plus by modem, if you have more than one modem, remove the modems that are not your modem.

After upgrading to Windows 98 speaker phone is lost.

After upgrading to Windows 98 you may experience issues with the Speaker Phone option available through Comm Central. If you are encountering this issue, follow the below recommended steps to resolve the issue.

  1. Double-click the Volume Control icon at the bottom right of your computer.

  2. Within the sound properties, click Options / Properties.

  3. Within the Sound Properties, verify that Telephone and Microphone are checked and click ok

  4. Once back at the Volume Control, ensure that Microphone and Telephone are not checked on Mute. Generally, these are defaulted on mute and un-checking these options the speaker phone will work.  

Where can I download or obtain Comm Central?

Comm Central is a Packard Bell application; therefore, you can only get Comm Central from Packard Bell. Packard Bell will only provide you this program if it originally came with your computer. Additional information about purchasing this product can be obtained by contacting Packard Bell. In addition, this product did ship with the NEC Ready line computers as well. If you have a NEC Ready, you can contact NEC for additional information on this program by contacting NEC.
