GM
GM may refer to any of the following:
1. Short for Game Masters, GMs are real people who help run, maintain, and assist other players in online games, often role-playing games.
2. Short for Gold Master or Golden Master, GM is a primary copy of software released after testing is complete. For example, when Apple releases its macOS or other software applications, it first release a GM for reproduction. Microsoft refers to this as RTM (Release To Manufacturing), but others may also use the term RC (Release Candidate) when software is ready to be released.
When the development process enters this phase, the terms code freeze and feature freeze may indicate that no additional changes will be made to this version. Any changes or updates are made to future versions.
3. Shorthand for "good morning," GM is used in chat rooms as a way to greet users in the morning.
4. GM can also be short for good manners and is sometimes used in computer games and chat rooms.
See our etiquette page for further information and examples of good online etiquette.
5. GM is also short for general manager. A general manager is a person responsible for multiple departments within a company.
6. The Internet domain suffix .gm is short for Gambia.
