Interrecord gap

Alternatively called InterBlock Gap and abbreviated as IBG or IRG, an InterRecord Gap is a break between blocks of data on the magnetic tape inside a hard drive. Interrecord gaps prevent data overwrites and are also used as a marker for the end of data.
