Moderator
With an online discussion (e.g., chat room or message board), a moderator must ensure that all rules are followed (moderation). The moderator can fix errors, remove obscene content, or kick/remove a user who's breaking the rules. However, do not have complete control of the server or channel settings.
What does it mean when something is moderated?
Anything labeled as moderated (e.g., moderated chat or moderated forum) means that there's someone or something (e.g., bots) watching for bad users. If someone breaks the rules the moderator may warn them, kick them, or ban them.
What is a content moderator?
A content moderator is a human who moderates content posted on social media and other platforms that allow people to post. This person reviews any content flagged as inappropriate or that breaks the company's rules, and if inappropriate, removes that content and bans the poster.
Can I be a mod?
It's up to the admin or operator to decide who has moderator privileges. Typically, this person will not give someone moderator privileges until that person has proven to be someone helpful and who could assist in maintaining the channel or board. Others may only rely on bots to be the moderator because they can always be on and monitoring all channels.
