Short for Multiple Virtual Storage, MVS was introduced in 1974 with the release of OS/VS2. MVS is an IBM mainframe operating system capable of accessing multiple virtual storage address spaces. MVS is variously released as MVS/370, MVS/DFP, MVS/ESA, MVS/SP, MVS/XA, and OS/MVS.
