Updated: 11/16/2019 by Computer Hope

Short for Run-Length Encoding, RLE is a file format used with computer graphics files to help reduce the overall size of a file. Although a graphics file may end with a .RLE extension, there are graphic files, such as some BMP (bitmap) and TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) files, that may use RLE.
