RS or Recommended Standard-232, also known as EIA232 standard, is a standard for computer data communications introduced in 1960 by EIA (Electronic Industries Alliance). Today, the most personal computers have the capability of utilizing this form of data communications. The RS-232 standard supports two connectors, the 25 pin DB-25 connector and the 9 pin DB-9 connector.
RS-232 has had three revisions, including RS-232C, RS-232D (EIA232D) and EIA232E.
