Text message code
Updated: 09/25/2024 by Computer Hope
A text message code is several letters or numbers that are easy to type on a cell phone. Teenagers sometimes use them to disguise what they're discussing with their friends. For example, "143" is code for "I love you."
Examples of text message codes
- 8 - Oral sex.
- 20 - Location (e.g., what's your 20).
- 143 - I love you.
- 182 - I hate you.
- 420 - Drugs (e.g., marijuana).
- 459 - I love you.
Tip
These codes were used with early cell phones; today, most have switched to using emojis.
