Trim

Trim may refer to any of the following:

1. Trim is another way of saying truncate or shorten.

2. With hard drives or SSD (Solid-State Drive), TRIM or trimming is a tool to improve the life and performance of an SSD. Optimization is achieved by analyzing the SSD data blocks for any blocks containing data that can be erased or repurposed.

When you delete files, the operating system often only marks that data as deleted but doesn't erase the data. Marking instead of deleting helps improve the computer's speed and allows easier file recovery, but it can prevent data from being written efficiently. Performing a TRIM finds this data and clears any data marked for deletion.

Note

If your hard drive is not an SSD, use Defrag and not TRIM.

3. In Microsoft Excel and spreadsheets, TRIM is a function that removes unnecessary spaces at the beginning or end of a value in a cell.
