Issue:

When trying to install DirectX 3.0 get setup() failed-8.

Cause:

DirectX incompatibility or error reading CD.

Solution:

Ensure the Diablo CD is not dirty. If the CD is dirty, clean it.

If a previous version of DirectX has been installed with any previous software, attempt to remove the version of DirectX installed through Add / Remove programs located in the Control Panel.

If the CD appears to be clean, verify with the manufacturer of your video card and sound card that they are 100% compatible with Microsoft DirectX 3.0.
