Troubleshooting a new serial device.
Issue:Troubleshooting a new serial device.
Cause:It may be required that troubleshooting occur to properly install a serial device.
Solution:First ensure that the COM port is not already being setup for another device such as a Modem. Check this by clicking on Start / Settings / Control Panel / double-click Modems / click the Diagnostics tab. Under this tab ensure that the modem is not taking up the port that you are installing the new device to. If it is available, close out of this window and within Control Panel double-click the System Icon then click the Device Manager tab. In Device manager click the + next to ports ensure that the port that you are installing the device to is listed beneath Ports. If the port is not listed, close out of this window and double-click Add new hardware and install
a New Port; once installed, reboot the computer. If, however, your port is listed, or once installed this did not resolve the issue, close out of all windows and press Ctrl + Alt + Del; within the close program window End task everything (one thing at a time) except Explorer and Systray, and once again attempt to test the device you are trying to install. If this resolves your issue it's a good possibility another application is attempting to utilize this port and you will need to determine which application this is and remove it from loading up automatically. However, if this does not resolve your issue, reboot your computer to get all your ended tasks back.
If the above suggestions are unable to resolve your issue it is recommended that you contact the manufacturer of your device and/or your computer manufacturer for additional support and possible replacement.
